AV Monitoring vs. AV Lifecycle Management: What’s the Difference?

Written by Kevin Rauch | Oct 19, 2026, 2:00:01 PM

AV monitoring and AV lifecycle management solve related problems. They are not the same thing.

Monitoring asks: “What is happening right now?” Lifecycle management asks: “How do we manage this environment throughout its useful life?”

Monitoring Improves Detection

Monitoring gives support teams' visibility into operational conditions. A device goes offline. A peripheral disconnects. A system reports an abnormal condition.

Instead of waiting for the user to discover the issue, the support organization can know sooner. That is valuable. But then what?

The Alert Is the Beginning

After detection, the team still needs to understand the room, determine impact, identify affected technology, access documentation, review previous incidents, diagnose, resolve, document, and determine what should happen next.

Monitoring started the process. It did not manage the lifecycle

Lifecycle Management Connects the Stages

Deploy →    Establish the system record.

Monitor →   Understand operational health.

Support →  Respond to incidents.

Optimize → Respond to incidents.

Refresh → Plan what comes next.

The value comes from connecting those stages through shared data.

Monitoring Can Be the Entry Point

For many Integrators, monitoring is a logical first step toward managed services. The strategic question is where it leads.

Monitoring is a capability. The lifecycle is the opportunity.
